A homeless man has been charged with fatally shooting a Manhattan man outside a Bronx apartment building earlier this week.
Christopher Padin, 27, faces a second-degree murder charge for the Jan. 19 shooting that claimed the life of Matthew Jones, 23, a resident of West 178th Street in Washington Heights.
Sources familiar with the investigation said Padin allegedly shot Jones following a dispute over money owed.
Officers from the 46th Precinct found Jones with gunshot wounds to his head and torso outside a building on Creston Avenue between East 182nd and East 183rd Streets at 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 19.
Paramedics rushed Jones to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives tracked down Padin following an extensive investigation. Padin was formally charged on Thursday night following questioning at the 44th Precinct stationhouse, also in the Bronx.
