This Lower East Side creep was worse than “rude”; he was rotten as he attempted to rape a woman in her apartment on Sunday morning.
Special victims detectives need the public’s help in finding the suspect behind the attack, which occurred at 9 a.m. on Sept. 4 within the Lillian Wald Houses on Avenue D.
According to police, the perverted perpetrator — who wore a black t-shirt, a silver head wrap and white shorts with the word “Rude” written on the front — followed the 53-year-old woman into her building, then forced his way into her apartment.
Upon gaining entry to her residence, authorities said, the suspect displayed a knife and attempted to rape the victim. But the victim “gave him a hard time” and fought off his advances, police sources said.
Moments later, he stole the victim’s cellphone and $20 in cash, then fled the location on foot.
The incident was reported to the 9th Precinct and NYPD PSA 4. EMS rushed the victim to Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center for treatment.
Police said the would-be rapist is believed to be in his 20s, standing about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds, with a dark complexion, a slim build and facial hair.
On Monday, the NYPD released video of the suspect on the street.
