Three days after being reported missing, a Manhattan man was found dead in the rear of a Greenwich Village apartment building Thursday afternoon, police sources said.
The Medical Examiner’s office is now investigating the cause of William Mundy’s demise. The 23-year-old resident of East 100th Street in Harlem was discovered deceased at around 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 in the rear of a building on Fifth Avenue near East 13th Street.
Law enforcement sources said Mundy was last seen entering that same building at 3 a.m. on Dec. 23. At this point, police do not know the purpose of his visit to the location.
When he did not come home later on Monday, the New York Daily News reported, Mundy’s mother reported his disappearance to the 23rd Precinct.
The NYPD issued a press release about Mundy on the night of Dec. 25.
Police sources did not disclose information on the nature of Mundy’s death. Citing “cops,” the Daily News reported, it’s believed that he may have fallen from the roof or one of the upper floors of the building.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
