A 38-year-old woman was found brutally stabbed to death in the stairwell of an East Harlem apartment building on Wednesday morning.
Police made the grisly discovery at about 6:08 a.m. on Aug. 4 inside a high-rise structure within the Wagner Houses public housing complex at 2390 2nd Ave.
Officers from the 25th Precinct and NYPD PSA 5 located the unidentified victim inside a stairwell between the second and third floors. At the time of her discovery, the woman was unconscious and unresponsive with multiple stab wounds in her left chest, lower back and right arm.
EMS rushed her to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Police have withheld her identity, pending family notification.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing are unknown at this point, law enforcement sources said.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said. A description of a suspect was not immediately available.
