The wait continues.
Former President Donald Trump‘s fate has been kept on ice at least one more day as a scheduled grand jury meeting to consider a possible indictment on Wednesday was postponed by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, according to published reports.
NBC News reported that Bragg’s office told jurors to stay home Wednesday, but be ready to hear evidence on Thursday, March 23. And the wait could go even longer; one law enforcement source told Business Insider that a vote on a possible indictment may not come at all this week.
All of this comes after Trump himself set off a media frenzy last weekend when, in a social media tirade, he claimed he would be arrested and indicted by Bragg on Tuesday, March 22. He called upon his devout followers to “PROTEST, TAKE OUR NATION BACK.”
That set off something of a panic, as Trump’s language mirrored similar statements he made ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol. Police beefed up security at the Lower Manhattan Criminal Court House and near Bragg’s office and home. Bragg incurred the unhinged rage of Trump loyalists in politics, on social media and on television who charged that the entire investigation was politically motivated.
A handful of Trump’s election-denying loyalists, often outnumbered by counter-protesters and even reporters, rallied outside Bragg’s office and Trump Tower to denounce the possible indictment.
But Tuesday came and went, and not only was Trump still a free ex-president, but also not the first indicted one in U.S. history.
As the world waits to learn the fate of the 45th president, DA Bragg is playing the investigation close to his chest. Sources have told amNewYork Metro that Bragg has received death threats for pursuing the possible indictment and was seen Wednesday morning rushing into his office flanked by several security guards.
Law enforcement sources are also reporting that Lower Manhattan has received several bomb threats over the last several days.
A small trickle of protesters also gathered outside of the DA’s office in a continued call to hold Trump accountable for his alleged crime, stretching out a banner reading “The time is now.”
