A pickup truck driver hit and killed an elderly woman on West Street at Manhattan’s West Side Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
Cops say 78-year-old local Mablen Jones tried to cross the busy eight-lane thoroughfare just north of Canal Street at 2:40 p.m., when the lights turned green for cars and a 70-year-old male motorist heading south in a Toyota Tundra mowed her down and drove over her.
Paramedics brought the victim to Lenox Hill Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver stayed on the scene, but police did not arrest him or charge him with any crimes.
The intersection near the Hudson River has seen 29 crashes over the past decade, injuring 34 people, according to the website NYC Crash Mapper.
