Man stabbed at migrant shelter near Central Park: NYPD

A man was stabbed inside a migrant shelter near Central Park on Wednesday morning, and police are searching for the suspect behind the bloody incident. 

According to an NYPD spokesperson, the stabbing occurred inside the former Lincoln Correctional Facility in Harlem, located at 31 Central Park North, which has been used to house asylum seekers since last year. 

The defunct correctional facility opened in June of 2023, with capacity for around 500 migrants.

On Wednesday, officers from the 28th Precinct responded to a 911 at around 11:20 a.m, alerting them to the stabbing at the facility, where they found a man in his 30s with a stab wound to his back. 

Paramedics rushed the victim to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical but stable condition.

As of 1:15 p.m. Feb. 28, police had not made any arrests in the case, or identified any suspects. The investigation remains ongoing.
