Thief whacks man with metal rod while robbing him in Manhattan: cops

Cops are looking for a thief who robbed a newspaper stand employee in Manhattan after hitting him with a metal rod.

Authorities say that at 12:50 p.m. on April 18, a 66-year-old male newspaper stand employee was outside of 137 Centre Street when he was approached by an unknown man who demanded his property. When the victim refused, the suspect hit him in the head with a metal rod.

The suspect then swiped the victim’s cellphone and keys before fleeing the scene. The victim suffered a fracture and lacerations to his head and was taken to New York Downtown Hospital for treatment.
