A Washington Heights man was gunned down outside a local deli just steps away from his home on Tuesday night, police reported.
Detectives continue to search for the shooting suspect behind the murder of Reda Girgis, 66, outside the Chop Cheese 2 Deli at the corner of West 162nd Street and Broadway at about 7:11 p.m. on May 23.
Officers from the 33rd Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the shooting, found Girgis, who lived on West 162nd Street, with a bullet wound to his head.
According to WABC-TV, Girgis was shot while standing outside the deli; it’s unclear, however, whether he was the intended target. The alleged gunman reportedly fled the scene in a gray vehicle.
EMS rushed Girgis to Metropolitan Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown and under investigation. So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing probe, police sources said.
