Queens police have shot and killed man after he allegedly stabbed a woman during a house party on Friday evening, police said.
According to NYPD Chief of Departmen Jeffrey Maddrey, officers from the 112th Precinct rushed to a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute at 99-44 62nd Ave. in Rego Park at around 6:53 p.m. on March 8.
Four cops rushed into the building and scaled a flight of stairs to the second floor where they were apparently immediately charged at by a 46-year-old man wielding a knife.
“They yell to the male, ‘Drop the knife!’ The male charges the officers. The sergeant discharges his taser while two officers discharged their weapons,” Cheif Maddrey said.
Maddrey reported that cops fired about four shots before attempting to revive the assailant while awaiting EMS. Sources familiar with the investigation said the wounded man was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Upon further investigation, police said the man had stabbed a 43-year-0ld woman twice during some kind of party.
The victim apparently rushed out of the room holding her stomach as another person attempted to hold the front door closed to prevent the attacker from giving chase. The woman is recovering in a local hospital.
The party was apparently intended by families and young children. Police are still probing why the attacker went on the rampage.
Chief Maddrey called the incident fast-paced and dynamic.
“As soon as they walk out the staircase a male is charging at them with a knife,” Maddrey said. “They fired their weapon.”
The officers involved in the shooting were not physically injured, law enforcement sources said.
A large NYPD presence descended on the scene and police are asking the public to say clear of the area while they investigate.
