Queens detectives are still looking for the gunslinger who shot a 12-year-old girl and several others Wednesday night in a shocking incident of gun violence, police reported.
According to police sources, the disturbing shooting occurred not far from the South Jamaica Houses public housing complex, in the vicinity of 160th Street, in Jamaica at around 7:51 p.m. on May 15.
Sources familiar with the investigation report that a group of about 10 locals — apparently involved in an ongoing feud — became engaged in a dispute that devolved into a massive brawl.
Authorities said the fight swiftly grew out of control, leading to a knife attack that left two women injured.
During the melee, cops reported, two unknown gunmen sidled up to the crowd and opened fire, striking a 12-year-old who was allegedly involved in the fight and sending the group running.
“No one seems to care, this is the second shooting of a child over here,” resident Natalie Filipina said. “This is sad and pathetic behavior.”
Police report that the pre-teen, who was shot in the arm, was whisked by EMS units to Cohen Children’s Medical Center where she is expected to recover.
Later on Wednesday evening, authorities reported, a 26-year-old woman walked into Jamaica Hospital with a stab wound to the chest while an 18-year-old woman was treated for lacerations to the head. Both are expected to survive.
Officers from the 103rd Precinct could be seen hurriedly rushing around the scene of the shooting while those injured in the brawl could be observed being treated in the back of an ambulance.
This comes hot on the heels of two tragedies involving teens earlier this month: 16-year-old Mahki Brown was fatally shot in SoHo while trying to break up a fight between schoolmates, while 17-year-old Sara Rivera was allegedly stabbed to death by her 15-year-old friend in Sunnyside, Queens.
NYPD say they are searching for the gunman behind Wednesday night’s shooting. So far, no arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
