Police have charged a 30-year-old man whom they say stabbed his girlfriend to death in their Queens home early Saturday morning.
Police are charging Edwin Sarmiento, of 58-27 Van Cleef Street with the murder of Juliet Ximena Galindo Puentes, 30, of the same address. She was found stabbed numerous time in the home by police. Sarmiento is also being charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Police responded to a 911 call of an assault in progress inside 58-27 Van Cleef St. in Corona at 4:15 a.m. on Feb. 8. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the 30-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds to her body, according to authorities. EMS arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Police recovered a knife at the scene and, while canvassing the area, responding officers apprehended a Sarmiento and took him into custody. Law enforcement sources say that the man and the victim were boyfriend and girlfriend and lived together at the site of the stabbing.
Sarmiento was taken from the 11oth Precinct last night in a white Tyvek suit and charged with the murder. His clothing was being held as evidence in the crime. He said nothing as he was put into a detective vehicle to Queens Central Booking.
