An 18-year-old Staten Island man faces murder charges for shooting his mother to death and attacking his father with a knife during a violent outburst in their home on Saturday night, police reported.
Law enforcement sources said Adnan Pelinkovic, 18, allegedly went on the attack during an argument over a birth certificate inside the family residence on Burbank Avenue near South Railroad Avenue in New Dorp at about 6:20 p.m. on Oct. 9.
Officers from the 122nd Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the incident, arrived on the scene and found his 54-year-old mother, Minire Pelinkovic, with a gunshot wound to her chest. EMS rushed her to Staten Island University Hospital North, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Cops also found the suspect’s 54-year-old father with a laceration to his chest. The wound was not life-threatening, and he refused medical attention at the scene.
Adnan Pelinkovic, meanwhile, was at the location when police arrived and subsequently taken into custody. Police also recovered a firearm allegedly used in the deadly shooting.
Sources familiar with the investigation said that police had been called to the Pelinkovic home previously due to an argument involving Adnan Pelinkovic and his father.
Following questioning, detectives charged Adnan Pelinkovic with murder, attempted murder, and two counts each of assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and menacing.
