This posthumous retrospective exhibition celebrates the life of Korean artist Eunah Kim (1973-2010) — whose brief but spirited career was cut short by lung cancer. For the next four years after her diagnosis, Kim created a body of conceptual sculptures, wall hangings, paintings and works on paper.
“In Her Wake: Eunah Kim” surveys the art she produced from 2000 to 2009. Born into a Catholic family, Kim studied philosophy and art history in Korea, then pursued Zen Buddhism during her graduate school years (becoming a Buddhist nun novitiate in 1997). Returning to the secular world after a few years, Zen Buddhism remained her way of life. Her creative output was deeply informed by that experience, along with an immersion in mysticism and spirituality.
