A Bronx man died hours after someone smashed a glass bottle over his head during a dispute early on Friday morning, police reported.
Authorities said Mario Fernandez, 50, suffered a fatal neck laceration during the attack that occurred at about 12:32 a.m. on Sept. 1 at 2631 Marion Ave. in Fordham Heights.
According to law enforcement sources, Fernandez — who lived down the block on Marion Avenue — had become embroiled in an argument at the crime scene when an unidentified man struck him over the head with a glass bottle, cutting his neck in the process.
EMS rushed Fernandez to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died a short time later.
The incident was reported to the 52nd Precinct, which had seen five homicides year-to-date through Aug. 27, according to the most recent CompStat report; that’s down from the 12 murders recorded at the same point in 2022. Felony assaults, however, are up 9.3% this year.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said.
