Police in Brooklyn are looking for a gunman who shot and killed a man outside of a public housing complex on Sunday night, authorities said.
According to law enforcement sources, the slaying occurred at 11:03 p.m. on June 16 outside the Brevoort Houses located at 254 Ralph Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Officers from the 81st Precinct, in responding to a 911 call about the shooting, discovered a 32-year-old man with several gunshot wounds to the chest. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time, police reported.
EMS rushed the victim to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 11:30 p.m. Police have withheld his identity, pending family notification.
The killing shook locals, with neighbors decrying the gun violence.
“This community should be wanting to come together. I hate that this happens here every now and then. A few years ago we had a similar tragic situation and not much changes,” 56-year-old Roger Moss said.
“We haven’t had something like this happen here in a few years,” 72-year-old Esther Saunders added. “I hate to see it come back.”
Cops said the killer fled the scene on foot after firing the hail of bullets. No further description of the suspect was available as of Monday morning.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA). You can also submit tips online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, or on X (formerly Twitter) @NYPDTips. All calls and messages are kept confidential.
The 81st Precinct had reported just one homicide year-to-date through June 9, according to the most recent CompStat report; that’s equal to the number of murders tallied at the same point last year. Shootings are up slightly, from five last year to six this year.
