A Westchester man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly trying to rape two women in two separate subway stations in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
On June 16, officers arrested 28-year-old Bernardo Ramos, of Yonkers. He was charged with two counts of attempted rape, three counts of sexual abuse, two counts of unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching and assault.
According to police, at 11:35 a.m. on June 6 a 36-year-old woman exited a southbound 1 train a the 72nd Street subway station. As she attempted to transfer to the 3 train, Ramos allegedly blocked her from entering the train and dragged her to the end of the platform.
Ramos then allegedly began to touch the victim’s chest and buttocks and attempted to forcibly remove the victim’s pants. The victim allegedly scratched Ramos on the face, causing him to flee the subway system. EMS responded to the location and took the victim to Roosevelt Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries.
Police say that Ramos was allegedly involved in another attempted rape that took place in Brooklyn that same day. At 1:10 p.m. on June 6, a 25-year-old woman was onboard a southbound F train at the 15th Street-Prospect Park subway station when she was allegedly approached by Ramos. Ramos then allegedly punched the woman in the chest, knocking her onto the bench in the train.
Ramos allegedly then got on top of the victim and lifted her skirt. A nearby witness alerted the conductor, and when the conductor entered the train he yelled at Ramos, who allegedly fled to the next train car and eventually into the subway station. The victim was allegedly able to take a photo of Ramos before he fled the scene. The victim suffered minor injuries as a result and refused medical attention at the scene.
