Cops identify Brooklyn man who was beaten to death in front of NYCHA complex last week

Police have released the name of a 37-year-old man who was beaten to death outside a NYCHA apartment complex in Brooklyn last week.

Shannal Mitchell, of West 32nd Street in Brooklyn, has been identified as the victim of a brutal beating that took place in front of an apartment building at NYCHA Nostrand Houses, located on Avenue W in Sheepshead Bay, at around 9:45 p.m. on Sunday July 5.

Police found Mitchell, after receiving a 911 call, unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to his head. EMS transported him to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, in serious condition. On Tuesday, July 11, Mitchell succumbed to his injuries.

Police have ruled the incident a homicide. There have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.
