A Bronx man was arrested Friday in connection with an attack on a Jewish man as he walked home from Shabbat services in Crown Heights, police said.
James Vincent, 40, yelled anti-Semitic remarks at the 52-year-old victim, punched him in the face several times and choked him at about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday near East 46th Street and Rutland Road, according to police. After Good Samaritans intervened, Vincent fled, they said.
The victim was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County with bruising to his face and neck.
Vincent was charged on Friday with assault, strangulation and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Following the attack, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) offered a $5,000 reward for information on the incident, as well as another attack on a Jewish man on April 14.
“Thanks to the dedicated work of the @NYPDSVU #HCTF and Deputy Inspector Molinari for making an arrest in this alleged #Antisemtic assault,” ADL New York tweeted Friday. “We appreciate all who spoke out and stood up with us against this kind of violent hate.”
The Crown Heights community also gathered Monday night to denounce the crimes.
“We did too much over the last 20-some-odd years to bring the community together,” Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said. “We cannot let this undo that.”
