Declyn Lauper, the rapper and son of legendary music icon Cyndi Lauper, appeared in a Manhattan court Wednesday for the latest hearing on gun charges filed against him earlier this year.
The 26-year-old appeared jovial and even posed for amNewYork Metro as he left 100 Centre St. on Nov. 13 despite the serious nature of his alleged crimes.
The younger Lauper, known professionally as “Dex,” was cuffed by police on Feb. 7, 2024 for carrying a loaded firearm and drugs in Harlem, according to law enforcement sources. Cops made the arrest while canvassing the area after a 24-year-old man had been shot and wounded in the leg on West 112th Street at around 7:15 p.m. that night.
EMS rushed the victim to Mount Sini Moriningside hospital where he survived. He was not charged in the shooting.
According to court documents, Declyn Lauper was arrested again in July for possessing a stolen Mercedes. Police sources say the car had been reported stolen in 2020 from the Bronx before they cuffed him at the corner of West 140th Street and Broadway in Hamilton Heights. The would-be hip-hop star was double parked in the Mercedes-Benz while attending a vigil for a young teen rapper who had been stabbed to death.
Lauper’s Wednesday appearance was a short one, focusing primarily on scheduling his next hearing which is scheduled for Dec. 3. A bodyguard escorted him into and out of his hearing.
