Demo do over needed for loosened sidewalk pavers

It was only this past summer that Father Demo Square reopened after a major renovation. However, on the sidewalk along the plaza’s Sixth Ave. side a dozen or more hexagonal asphalt pavers have become unmoored and popped up, making for wobbly and potentially hazardous footing. David Gruber, president of the Carmine St. Block Association and Friends of Father Demo Square, said he was told by the Parks Department that the pavers will be reset this week. Gruber said only sand, not concrete, is used to set the pavers, but that for some reason these loosened pavers just didn’t set properly. Gruber said he was told the free-floating foot surface will be reset with sand one more time.
