[/media-credit]After traveling across the Atlantic Ocean from the Meyer Werft construction yard in Papenburg, Germany where she was built, Disney’s newest ship, Disney Fantasy, arrived in New York harbor on the morning of Feb. 28. She was greeted by fireboat Three Forty Three, the Coast Guard and several flocks of Canada geese that had paused to dine on Battery Park City lawns before making their way northward.
Fantasy played “New York, New York,” “When You Wish Upon a Star” and several other ditties on her horn as she passed by.
She will be christened in New York on March 1 and will make her permanent home in Port Canaveral, Fla., her base for seven-day cruises of the western Caribbean.
Disney Fantasy has 14 decks and 1,250 staterooms with a capacity of 4,000 passengers and more than 1,450 crew members. A bronze statue of Mademoiselle Minnie Mouse decorates her atrium lobby.
In May, an older Disney ship, Disney Magic, will arrive in New York City, which will become her home port for 20 cruises a year.
