Bronx detectives are hunting for the gunman behind a double shooting near a seafood restaurant on Sunday night that left a man dead and another wounded.
According to police sources, the deadly incident unfolded just before 8 p.m. on Feb. 23 in front of the Shaking Crab located at 2179 White Plains Road.
Police sources said one of the victims, a 32-year-old man, was along the sidewalk at the time, heard several shots ring out but did not realize he had been wounded until he felt pain in his back seconds later.
Officers from the 49th Precinct rushed to the scene to set up a perimeter while EMS whisked the victim to Jacobi Hospital, where he was treated for his injury and is expected to survive.
But officers later learned from Jacobi Hospital staff that the second shooting victim was brought there for treatment.
Police say 33-year-old Kemahni Smalls of Staten Island had been shot in the back at the restaurant at around the same time Sunday night. He was brought via private means to Jacobi Hospital, but could not be saved and was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, police are looking for the suspected gunman, described as a man in his 20s last seen wearing a sweatshirt and dark-colored pants, who fled on foot moments after the gunfire.
So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, authorities said.
