In photo at left, Lower East Sider Jeremiah Newton, left, joined underground filmmaker Kenneth Anger at an event in the 1980s at Anthology Film Archives on Second Ave., when Anger was receiving an award for his work. Anger is known for his dark, 1964 film “Scorpio Rising.” Newton, who is also a gay activist, just finished producing a new film, “Beautiful Darling,” on 1960s Warhol superstar Candy Darling — the same Candy in Lou Reed’s song “Take a Walk on the Wild Side.” In photo at right, Soho resident Steven ben Israel, a legendary performance artist with the Living Theatre, with his wife, Pamela Mayo. Ben Israel recently reportedly broke his hip in a fall and is recovering.
