The Giants are re-energized following their impressive 38-10 dismantling of the Green Bay Packers last Sunday night. With a two-game division lead once again, they have a chance to put the NFC East race nearly out of reach if they can subdue the Redskins tonight at Washington. Here are some keys to the matchup.
Contain RGIII
It’s easier said than done, but stopping Robert Griffin III is imperative. The sensational rookie quarterback nearly sunk the Giants in Week 7 on a 30-yard touchdown pass to Santana Moss with 1:32 to play. Griffin will almost assuredly get his stats again (20 for 28, 258 passing yards two TDs, nine carries for 89 yards in Week 7), but limiting the big plays will make this matchup less of a nightmare.
Don’t forget Morris
The man Griffin says would get his vote for Rookie of the Year, RB Alfred Morris, has 982 yards — 120 of them against the Giants — on the ground this season to go with six touchdowns. Stopping the run hasn’t always been a strength of the Giants this season, but it will have to be if they’d like to win the crucial time of possession battle tonight.
Air it out
Eli Manning is back on track after throwing three touchdown passes against the Packers, and now he gets to face a Redskins pass defense ranked next to last in the league. As long as he can avoid throwing turnovers (two interceptions in Week 7) he should be in for a monster passing yards tally at the Redskins.
