Firefighters are investigating a blaze that tore through a Bronx home on Tuesday evening, leaving five people injured, FDNY sources said.
According to the FDNY, the two-alarm fire began engulfing a two-family dwelling located at 132 West 165 St. in Highbridge at approximately 6:10 p.m. on Jan. 10.
After several frantic 911 calls, some 106 first responders—including firefighters and EMS—rushed to both battle the flames and aid those living at the premises.
In a matter of minutes, the night sky was filled with the sound of sirens and gleaming emergency lights as smokejumpers broke their way into the building in order to quell the inferno; the fire had spread to both dwellings.
Doors were left hanging off their hinges and windows were left shattered inside both homes by the time the fire had been extinguished, some 22 minutes later at 6:33 p.m. on Jan. 10.
While nobody was killed, five individuals were hospitalized as a result of the incident. FDNY reported that no service members were harmed while fighting the fire.
The cause of the fire is not known at this time, and is under investigation.
