The broken-down sidewalk was being fixed up this past week outside the site of Evan Blum’s former Irreplaceable Artifacts building on Second Ave. at Houston St. The heavily loaded building was demolished in July 2000, after it suffered a partial collapse. The workers there this week said they were creating “a park.” Susan Stetzer, district manager of Community Board 3, said the city is just “doing a favor” to Blum on the sidewalk, and that it’s all being done for the new First St. Green Cultural Park project, which will include a temporary Guggenheim Museum exhibit space on the connecting vacant lot at 33 E. First St., plus a strip of parkland extending along East Houston St. Blum’s property isn’t part of the project.
