The lamb — originally thought to be a baby goat — that was rescued from the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn Wednesday morning will live out her life on an animal sanctuary.
The animal was spotted by drivers at about 9:15 a.m. running on the eastbound lanes of the expressway. Shortly after, it was caught by the NYPD’s highway unit, police said.
The lamb, who was named Petunia, was taken to the Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue in New Jersey Wednesday afternoon, founder and president Mike Stura said.
Stura, who picked Petunia up from the Animal Care Center on Staten Island, corrected reports calling her a goat. “It’s a lamb,” he said.
Investigators think she may have escaped one of the nearby slaughterhouses in Sunset Park.
This isn’t the first time farm animals have gotten loose in the city. A pair of goats was found roaming on the tracks of the N train in Borough Park in August.
