A man was hospitalized Tuesday after an attempted robbery in Greenwich Village ended in a brutal stabbing, authorities said.
The incident occurred at approximately 5 a.m. on Dec. 3 near the corner of Bleecker and MacDougal Streets.
Law enforcement sources said a 37-year-old man had been patronizing a bar in the area when he stepped outside and was approached by an unknown individual who demanded money.

Police described the suspect as a man last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and dark pants.
