It was more fun than a barrel of monkeys!

Performers from the New York Chinese Cultural Center came to the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place to ring in the Year of the Monkey with a showcase of Chinese dance, traditional music, and martial arts in a celebration of the Lunar New Year.

Downtown Councilmember Margaret Chin introduced the show, and even Sen. Charles Schumer showed up to wish the crowd a happy new year. SportsNet New York sportscaster Michelle Yu served as emcee.

In addition to the swirling Red Ribbon Dance, the Yun Nan Fan Dance, fast-paced martial arts — and, of course, the iconic Lion Dance — viewers were treated to a visit by the Monkey King himself.
