A scooter driver is in critical condition after colliding into another scooter rider and an MTA bus in Harlem on Monday, police said.
According to police sources, the dramatic incident occurred at approximately 10:28 a.m. on 149th Street and Third Avenue that set off a chain reaction of collisions. A 60-year-old man driving a scooter apparently crashed into another scooter, sending a 58-year-old flying from his vehicle before he continued on and hurtled head-on with a BN41 bus.
While no passengers were reported injured, the scooter driver who struck the bus suffered a severe head injury. He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital where he is in grave condition. The second scooter driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
NYPD officers cordoned off the street as they investigated. The bus remained on the scene, near warped pieces of metal and a pulverized scooter. The cause of the incident is currently unclear, and the investigation remains ongoing.
