Housing Works Cannabis Co., one of the city’s first legal dispensaries, officially opened its second dispensary in NoMad on Dec. 16.
The new joint located at 846 Sixth Ave. comes to the neighborhood with high hopes, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to cannabis equity, advocacy, and education.
The dispensary will use the expansion to support its best bud, Housing Works, a nonprofit organization based in New York City that provides essential services to thousands of residents facing challenges related to HIV/AIDS and homelessness.
A portion of the proceeds from sales at the new NoMad location will support Housing Works’ initiatives, furthering its mission to combat these social concerns.
“Opening a second location marks a significant step in our mission to de-stigmatize cannabis and educate our communities about its benefits,” said Sasha Nutgent, vice president of retail for Housing Works Cannabis Co. “This new dispensary in NoMad allows us to engage with a dynamic and diverse community, reinforcing our belief that ‘Uplift Each Other’ is more than a slogan—it’s our commitment to supporting marginalized communities and individuals.”
The new storefront features a spacious 3,500-square-foot retail space with 20-foot-high ceilings and a lovely interior that reflects Housing Works’ signature rainbow tones.
Customers can enjoy a variety of purchasing options, including personalized budtender-led education, self-service kiosks, pickup, and delivery. According to dispensary heads, every purchase directly supports underserved communities, embodying HWCC’s mission to uplift individuals in need.
“The opening of this dispensary represents more than just a new retail space; it’s a commitment to reinvesting in our community,” Nutgent added. “As we grow, we are eager to reinvest additional proceeds into Housing Works initiatives that empower those who need it most. Together, we can foster a community that embraces inclusion and empowerment.”
HWCC NoMad also introduces unique shopping experiences, such as a rotating display that allows customers to preview seasonal items from the Housing Works eShop via QR codes, and “The Stash” – a community-centered retail initiative that will feature quarterly selections curated in collaboration with notable New Yorkers and cultural icons.
The dispensary is open Monday through Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
As part of Housing Works’ extensive nonprofit network, including popular thrift stores and cafes, HWCC addresses critical social injustices in the city, supporting efforts against housing inequality, discrimination, and healthcare disparities.
