A congestion pricing proposal to raise money for better transit got backing from a group of state lawmakers yesterday.
Seven lawmakers in Albany, plus five members of the City Council, wrote to legislative leaders backing the Move New York toll plan that charges motorists to cross the East River bridges and enter Manhattan at 60th Street, while cutting tolls around the outerboroughs.
“The MTA should review service on every subway line once every five years, and must have the resources necessary to enact the review’s recommendations,” reads the letter from State Sen. Daniel Squadron and Assemblyman Walter Mosley of Brooklyn.
The lawmakers are part of working group to improve A and C train service as the MTA conducts a full review of the lines that could lead to better service; Squadron had gotten such reviews for the F, L and G lines.
“This promising proposal would provide more than enough funds to accelerate the schedule of Full-Line Reviews,” the letter read. “It will also allow for implementation of the improvements that make a significant difference in commuters’ lives.”
Spokespeople for the legislative leaders—Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos—in February said there had been no support for additional bridge tolls.
