A father was arrested for allegedly killing his baby in their Lower East Side apartment this week.
According to police, at 10 a.m. on April 25 the NYPD responded to a 911 call regarding an infant in need of help at NYU Hospital. Upon their arrival, officers were informed that 4-month-old Cairo Sanchez-Dixon was brought to the hospital by her family, unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma to her head.
Sanchez-Dixon was ultimately pronounced dead at the hospital. Further investigation found that the baby had suffered the injuries in her home at the Vladeck Houses, located at 376 Madison Street.
Sanchez-Dixon’s father, 34-year-old Ceferino Sanchez, was arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, assault and reckless assault on a child. The investigation remains ongoing.
