Cops on the Lower East Side are looking for the suspect who shot a man outside a bodega on Thursday morning following an argument, authorities and an eyewitness said.
According to police sources, the gun violence erupted at around 8:48 a.m. on Aug. 8 outside of the Brothers Mini Market at East 3rd Street and Avenue D, in the 9th Precinct‘s confines.
An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, told amNewYork Metro that the shooting unfolded after two men had a dispute.
“They were fighting, and he smacked him, he fell back and pulled out a gun and shot him in the chest,” the witness said. “He (the victim) ran up to me and told me to dial 911.”
The witness said he called first responders, but the victim became frantic and urged him to take him to a hospital.
“He goes, ‘They are taking too long, drive me.’ So, I put him in my car but when I got to the corner, I see some cops and an ambulance,” the witness said. “They started working on him.”
Police sources confirmed the victim, a 38-year-old man, had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. EMS rushed him to Bellevue Hospital where he is expected to survive.
Detectives are still searching for the suspect, whom police described as a man dressed in all black clothing and fled the scene on foot.
