Cops are investigating a shooting that left a teenager critically injured in a Downtown Brooklyn park on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, at 1:43 p.m. on Sept. 7, officers from the 84th Precinct responded to a 911 call regarding a 15-year-old shot at McLaughlin Park, located in the vicinity of Jay Street and Tillary Street.
Upon their arrival, police found the victim, Unique Smith, had been shot once in the chest.
The victim was rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
Police stated in a press conference that a fist fight had broken out in the park after an altercation prior to the shooting. A preliminary investigation determined that Smith was approached by two unknown individuals that engaged him in an unknown verbal dispute. One of the individuals pulled out a firearm and discharged it at the victim. Both individuals fled eastbound on Tillary Street towards Adams Street on foot.
The NYPD stated that the shooter was an unknown man. Two women were brought in for questioning regarding the incident.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
