A man died of his injuries early Monday morning after he was hit by a car while changing his tire on the Long Island Expressway in Queens.
At just after midnight on July 26, 52-year-old Jean Louis pulled over on the shoulder of the left lane on the westbound LIE before the College Point Boulevard exit so he could change his tire. The victim was struck by an oncoming Tesla, also traveling westbound at this time.
Police responded to the call at 12:10 a.m. The victim was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Queens, where he was pronounced dead. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.
The driver of the Tesla remained at the scene following the incident. No arrests have been made at this time and no criminality is suspected. The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
