A 38-year-old man was stabbed to death inside the bustling City Hall station in Lower Manhattan Friday morning, while the perpetrator remains at large.
According to police sources, a 38-year-old man was riding a downtown 6 train around 8:37 a.m. when he got into an argument with an unknown man. Cops say the dispute began after the victim stepped on the suspect’s shoes and rapidly escalated until the attacker stabbed him with a sharp object multiple times in the torso. The victim collapsed on the 6 train platform in a puddle of blood.
“He was a big guy; he was covered in blood. They [first responders] were working on him. There were a lot of people and they were running,” an eyewitness who did not give his name told amNewYork.
Cops from the 5th Precinct responded, and EMS rushed the victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds. Police describe the assailant as wearing blue jeans and a black jacket; he fled the scene and remains on the lam.
Sources with knowledge of the investigation report that the victim is known to police and has a criminal record himself.
Trains were forced to bypass the station and cops set up a crime scene surrounding a pool of blood and discarded medical supplies.
No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
