Police in Midtown are questioning a suspect who slashed a rival during an argument at a subway station early on Monday morning.
Law enforcement sources said the violent assault occurred at the 50th Street station on the C line at about 1:21 a.m. on Dec. 30.
According to authorities, the victim, a 48-year-old man, became embroiled in a verbal dispute with the perpetrator while they stood on the Uptown-bound platform. The reasons for the dispute were not immediately known.
The beef turned bloody, cops said, when the suspect pulled out a sharp object and slashed the man in the neck before fleeing the scene on an arriving Harlem-bound C train.
The incident was reported to the Midtown North Precinct. EMS rushed the wounded victim to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Meanwhile, cops caught up to the attacker moments later one stop north of the 50th Street station, at 59th Street-Columbus Circle. He was taken into custody for further questioning and was also treated for a hand injury, authorities noted.
Charges against the suspect are pending the results of the ongoing investigation, police said.
Despite the incident, the most recent NYPD figures note that transit crime is down 6.1% year-to-date through Dec. 15, with an average of six crimes in the system per day — 2,095 crimes over the first 350 days of 2024.
