An MTA employee is recovering after being attacked inside a dispatch room at a Chelsea subway station Tuesday morning.

Police responded to a 911 call at about 1:45 am Tuesday of an assault inside the 8th Avenue and 14th Street L train stop in Chelsea, the line’s western terminus. Cops say a 29-year-old man entered the station’s dispatch room and, when approached by an MTA employee on the clock, got into an argument.

After a heated verbal exchange, the intruder allegedly grabbed a tool and struck the 51-year-old employee multiple times, resulting in lacerations to the face. The man then stole the victim’s backpack and bolted.

Cops ultimately found the perp sitting underneath a stationary L train, and brought him into custody without further incident. The MTA employee is in stable condition recovering at Lenox Hill Hospital.
