If you’re looking for casual dining with flair, check out the NoMad Diner in the Arlo NoMad Hotel on Manhattan’s East Side — a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for breakfast, lunch or dinner with friends, family or even by yourself.
The diner, which opened to the public on Tuesday, May 7, offers an array of fun diner favorites with an added delightful spin. Foodies can choose from an extensive menu featuring sandwiches, egg dishes, entrees, drinks and desserts.
Modern twists on classics
amNew York Metro was intrigued by two entrees in particular — the vegetarian sloppy joe and grilled cheese and soup — so we gave them a try, and were not disappointed.
The meatless sloppy joe was a satisfying, delicious dinner. It has vegan chorizo, pickled red onion and cilantro on a small but sweet potato roll. A short stack of potato chips were on top, adding some crunch to the mildly spicy sandwich. A green salad on the side added an additional healthy kick to a perfect meal.
The grilled cheese and soup was a reimagined spin on a popular diner delight. Cheeses including Swiss and cheddar were the stars of the sandwich, all served up with caramelized onions on grilled sourdough bread. The soup was a generous cup of tomato bisque that arrived hot and steamy, great to enjoy with a classic sandwich.
No diner is complete without a ton of breakfast options. Stop in for something simple like a yogurt parfait or egg sandwich, or enjoy a heartier meal like cornmeal pancakes with butter, maple syrup and fresh berries; or the parishioner’s breakfast complete with cornmeal pancakes, bacon, ham, two eggs, breakfast potatoes and grilled sourdough bread.
Not in the mood for food? The diner includes a cool bar tucked in the corner that features numerous signature drinks, beer and more.
Art at the diner
The ambiance at the NoMad Diner is low-key trendy with a cozy diner aesthetic. Upon entering the eatery, which is located in the Arlo’s lobby, guests can enjoy viewing Arlo’s Living Room Gallery, a new art program offered at the hotel.
When amNew York Metro was there, we enjoyed viewing the art work of Hunt Slonem, which featured dozens of beautiful paintings of bunnies, butterflies and more cuteness, all part of Slonem’s Animal Magnetism series curated by Jasmine Arakel in partnership with DTR Modern Galleries.
Animal Magnetism will be on display in the lobby for approximately six weeks, when another art display will open.
The NoMad Diner is located at 11 E. 31 St. in Manhattan. It’s open daily, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. More information is available online or by calling 332-286-7005.
