Deputy Inspector Brandon del Pozo assumed command of Greenwich Village’s Sixth Precinct on Wed., June 2. He was most recently, for a year and a half, the commanding officer of the Bronx’s 50th Precinct, which covers Riverdale and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Del Pozo takes over from Deputy Inspector Raymond Caroli, who has led the Sixth Precinct for the past three years. Caroli has been reassigned to the department’s Firearms and Tactics Section.
According to a Nov. 5, 2009, article in the Riverdale Press, which then dubbed him a “philosopher captain,” del Pozo is a 1992 graduate of Stuyvesant High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Dartmouth College and master’s degrees from Harvard University and John Jay College of Criminal Justice. At the time of the article, he was working toward a doctorate in philosophy at CUNY.
A former Army officer and 14-year New York Police Department veteran, he was previously in the N.Y.P.D.’s Intelligence Division, serving two years as an intelligence liaison to the Middle East, and has investigated terror attacks in India and Turkey. Before his stint at the 50th Precinct, he led the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau.
Del Pozo was born and raised in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, to a Cuban father and a Jewish mother. He said he enjoyed the 50th Precinct’s diversity.
