Subway blunt rage
Police arrested Caroberto Cordero, a homeless man, for slashing the face of a woman passenger with a pen as she was trying to stop him from lighting a marijuana cigar on a No. 2 train between 14th and Chambers Sts. during the morning rush on Tues., April 19.
The suspect, 35, waved the burning lighter in front of the woman’s face when she told him not to light up and then pulled a pen and slashed her forehead, according to the complaint filed with the Manhattan district attorney. Fellow passengers held the suspect for police at the Chambers St. station. The victim was treated at New York Downtown Hospital and released.
Cordero, 35, told police, “I was just trying to light my blunt [tobacco-and-marijuana cigar] and the bitch wouldn’t leave me alone, so I hit her,” according to the complaint. He was charged with felony assault, possession of marijuana and weapon possession.
‘I’m the real actress’
Paz de la Huerta, a star of “Boardwalk Empire” on HBO, was arraigned on assault charges Tues., April 19, in connection with an unprovoked assault on March 20 of an MTV actress in the bar of The Standard hotel in the Meatpacking District.
De la Huerta was apparently drunk on the night in question and attacked Samantha Swetra, the MTV star, who was at the bar with Lindsay Lohan. Swetra told reporters that she had never met de la Huerta. De la Huerta reportedly said. “I’m the real actress on HBO. She’s a fake actress publicity seeker.”
The suspect punched Swetra in the face, bloodied her nose, and threw a glass which smashed on the floor near Swetra’s leg and inflicted cuts, according to the complaint filed with the Manhattan district attorney. De la Huerta was charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and criminal possession of a weapon, the glass. De la Huerta was also ordered not to go near Swetra.
Bouncer bribes
The new executive officer of the Seventh Precinct told the precinct Community Council meeting earlier this month that many bouncers in the area between Allen St. and the East River south of Houston St. take money to allow underage patrons into the establishments.
“It’s very prevalent,” Captain David Miller, the precinct’s second in command, said of the corrupt practice. He spoke in regard to the recent temporary closing of Gallery Bar on Orchard St. for serving alcohol to patrons under age 21 on several occasions since September 2010.
Miller said underage drinkers tend to get into fights and that the precinct has issued a total of 331 nightlife-related disorderly conduct summonses since October 2010 — of which 274 of them were along Orchard and Ludlow Sts. between Houston and Delancey Sts.
Seek bank robber
Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect in connection with the robbery of the Chase branch bank at 156 Second Ave. near E. Ninth St. on Friday morning April 22. The suspect entered the bank around 9:15 a.m., passed the teller a note saying, “I have a gun. Give me all your money and return the slip with the money.” The teller handed over $776 and the suspect fled.
The robber was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, between 5 feet 3 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing black wraparound sunglasses, a gray-and-brown hooded sweatshirt, black leather jacket, blue jeans and dark-colored footwear. Shoe lift
An Inwood resident, 27, was shopping for shoes at the Steve Madden store at 529 Broadway at Spring St. around 7:30 p.m. Fri., April 22, when she discovered that her wallet had been stolen. The victim later learned that an unauthorized charge of $111.03 had been made on her Bank of America credit card at the Manhattan Mall at Sixth Ave. and 33rd St. A withdrawal from her debit card was also attempted but the transaction was refused, police said.
Holdup gun-boy
Police arrested Eric Sanchez, 14, on Sat., April 2, in connection with the attempted gunpoint robbery of two victims in front of E. 18th St. and F.D.R. Drive in Stuyvesant Town. Sanchez and three accomplices surrounded the victims around 3 p.m. when Sanchez pulled a pistol out of a bag and demanded the victims’ cell phones, according to the complaint filed with the Manhattan D.A. The suspects fled, but Sanchez was arrested at E. 28th St. and First Ave. attempting to get rid of the gun in a brown paper bag, police said.
