Teen shot on Ave. C
Police who responded to a call about a man shot at 1:52 a.m. Sun., Oct. 16, at the corner of E. 12th St. and Avenue C found the victim, Donovan Salgado, 17, with a gunshot wound in the torso. The victim, of 695 E. Ninth St., who was a senior at Washington Irving High School on Irving Place at E. 17th St., was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. There was no arrest and police are still investigating the case.
McDonald’s mayhem
An argument between a cashier at McDonald’s, 136 W. Third St., and two women customers around 12:30 a.m. Wed., Oct. 12, ended with the two customers in the hospital and all three charged.
The two women took offense when Rayon McIntosh, 31, examined the $50 bill they gave him for their food order. They climbed over the counter and one of them slapped McIntosh, who grabbed a metal bar and severely beat the two women, police said. Denise Darbeau and Rachel Edwards, both 24, were taken to Beth Israel Hospital and were charged with menacing, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Darbeau sustained a skull fracture and a broken arm. McIntosh was charged with two counts of felony assault.
McIntosh was convicted of manslaughter in 2000 for killing a classmate at Evander Childs High School in the Bronx and served a 10-year prison term according to a New York Post item. He was paroled in March.
Synagogue break in
Three suspects were arrested inside the historic Beth Hamedrash Hagadol synagogue on Sun., Oct. 9, and charged with stealing copper memorial plates from the locked house of worship at 60 Norfolk St. Rabbi Mendel Greenbaum was checking on the building when he spotted the intruders and called police.
Jose Cruz, 33, was being held in lieu of $20,000 bail; Ambioris Gonzalez, 23, was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail; and Carlos Rodriguez, 39, was being held in lieu of $15,000 bail.
Cruz was walking out of the building when he was arrested while the other two defendants were discovered under a table, police said.
A defense lawyer said that Rodriguez was homeless and had walked in when he saw the door was open and that Gonzalez was sleeping in the building because his wife threw him out of their house in Brooklyn after an argument.
The complaint filed with the Manhattan district attorney charges the suspects with removing the copper memorial plates from the wall and stacking them, presumably prior to taking them away. The lock securing a chain on the front door of the building had been cut and police said they found a bolt cutter, a crowbar and other tools in the place when the suspects were arrested.
A menorah, scroll, ark, prayer book and other items used in worship were also damaged.
Built in 1850 for a Baptist congregation that eventually became Riverside Church, a Russian congregation, Beth Hamedrash Hagadol (“The Great House of Study”), acquired the building in the 1880s.
Armed and dangerous
Sixth Precinct police are seeking a suspect in the gunpoint robbery of a store at 272 Bleecker St. in the heart of Greenwich Village around 2 a.m. Wed., Sept. 5. The suspect, described as a white man in his 30s, 6 feet tall and weighing about 240 pounds, with brown hair and beard, waved a silver-black gun at the attendant at the counter, and said, “Give me all the f—— money.”
The robber, who was wearing a Polo baseball cap, blue shirt, tan cargo shorts and white-and-black sneakers, fled on foot west on Morton St. with $600.
“The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous,” police said. Anyone with information should notify Detective Frank A. Francisco at the Sixth Precinct detectives squad, 212-741-4841.
Armed and sexy
A man with several tattoos, including “I Love Sex” on one of his hands, is wanted for armed robberies in Chelsea and Brooklyn. On Mon., Sept. 19, he held a gun to a man, 19, at about 4:20 p.m. on W. 24th St. near Seventh Ave. and made off with the victim’s gold neck chain.
Close shave
A New York City Transit officer arrested a suspect who was taking a wallet and a cell phone from a passenger sleeping on a train at the Eighth Ave. station at 14th St. around 6:46 a.m. Sun., Oct. 16. The suspect, Robert Boston, 45, had a razor in his pocket and was charged with larceny and weapon possession.
L.E.S. lady thief
A female thief has been lifting bags from patrons at Katz’s Delicatessen at Houston at Ludlow Sts. and other Lower East Side eateries, police said. On Sept. 30, she was recorded on a surveillance tape while paying her bill and glancing back at the diners before hurrying out with a stolen bag. Described as a heavyset black woman, between ages 40 and 50, she is believed to have taken a bag from a patron of Clinton Street Baking Company earlier last month. She is also reported to have stolen a bag from a customer at Barramundi bar, 67 Clinton St. Information on the suspect should be reported to Crime Stoppers, 800-577-TIPS (8577).
Soho burglary
A woman, 51, left her home at 121 Wooster St. around 4:30 p.m. Wed., Sept. 28, and returned at 9:30 p.m. to find the rear window open and the window bars kicked in, police said. The victim’s jewelry box was rifled and items were stolen along with a laptop computer.
Chelsea Elliott shooting
Police are looking for a suspect who shot and wounded a man, 25, around 11:30 p.m. Sun., Oct. 16, at Ninth Ave. and W. 26th St., in the Chelsea Elliott Houses. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. Police did not have a description of the suspect nor a motive for the shooting. The victim had prior assault and weapon possession convictions, according to reports.
Bicycle chain assault
Police arrested Henry Bilson, 17, around 4:25 a.m. Sat., Oct. 15, in front of 395 Sixth Ave. at W. Eighth St. and charged him with felony assault for beating a man, 33, across the face with a bicycle chain. The victim was taken to Beth Israel Hospital where he received stitches to close the lacerations in his face.
Car break-in
A witness who saw a man break the window of a car parked on the northwest corner of Fifth Ave. and W. 12th St. around 2:30 a.m. Fri., Oct. 14, called police, who arrested Johnny Pacheco, 46, inside the car. Pacheco was charged with possession of burglary tools and criminal mischief.
L.E.S. shoplifts
Two male shoplifters garishly dressed as women walked into a designer boutique at 85 Stanton St. on Thursday evening, grabbed two Chanel bags and fled before the astonished employees could stop them, according to reports. One of the thieves was described as 6 foot 3 inches tall, wearing a bright-orange argyle sweater, oversized eyeglasses and a silver wig.
