Cat stolen with car

One unlucky, black and white cat was stolen from a Soho street along with its owner’s vehicle last week, police reported.

The owner, a 37-year-old Hoboken woman, told police that her five-year-old, three-legged Tuxedo cat was curled up inside her parked car when it was stolen Thurs. June 20.

She parked her 1999 green Dodge Caravan wagon plates at 68 Thompson St. at about 3:45 p.m. When she returned for it 15 minutes later, the car was gone, along with her pet and some of her clothing and a five-year-old Toshiba laptop.

Police noted that there was a camera at the scene, on the corner of Watts and Thompson Sts., but they have not found the cat or vehicle.

Illegal steal on Pier 40

A soccer game ended badly for one player whose wallet was stolen from the sidelines.

The man, 50, told police that he had left his belongings off to the side while playing at the Pier 40 fields on Sun., June 9.  After the game, at about 7 p.m., he said he picked his bag up from the ground and left the pier. He walked to Houston St. and Greenwich St. and hailed a cab. He realized that his wallet was not in his bag at Murray and Greenwich Sts., causing him to turn around. He managed to get back to the field about a half hour after he had left, and searched for his missing wallet, but could not find it. He said he was not sure whether he had left it on the ground or if it had fallen out of his bag.

The wallet contained his $200 iPhone, New Jersey driver’s license, PATH SmartLink Card, a $100 prepaid transit Visa card, his credit card and $70 in cash, police reported. When he called his bank to cancel the credit card, he found out there were about $900 in unauthorized charges.

Cab driver pickpocketed

A taxi driver lost out on his fare when his passenger took off not only without paying, but with $1,700 in cash. The driver, 42, told police that he had been pickpocketed by a customer on Wed., July 19 at about 11:30 a.m.

The man said he picked up a 50-year-old woman who asked if she could sit in the front seat because of a leg injury. During the ride, the man noticed that his passenger touched his leg several times. At the on-ramp of the F.D.R. Drive North by the Brooklyn Bridge, the woman suddenly demanded that the driver stop the car because she had left her keys at her pickup location. As soon as he stopped the car, she got out and fled on foot, despite her supposed leg injury.

The man said he had to continue north on the F.D.R. for some time before he could turn around and go south. It was not until he pulled over opposite 200 Vesey St., he said, that he noticed that his wallet and all its contents, including credit cards, a Medicaid card and $1,700 in cash, were no longer in his pants pocket. The driver told police he believes he was pickpocketed sometime during the drive or when he leaned over to help the passenger with her seat belt.

Grand theft chewing gum

Three people, presumably with horrendous halitosis, swiped almost $2,000 worth of gum and Tic Tacs from a Duane Reade near City Hall, police said.

An employee of the store reported to police that three people entered the premises 20 minutes after midnight on Sat., June 22. They then proceeded to load up a backpack with merchandise grabbed from the store’s shelves. The total worth of the bagged gum and breath mints was initially reported as $1,907. The missing merchandise report includes 250 packs of Trident Original gum (18 sticks) and more exotic flavors like Trident Layers Cool Mint Melon (14 sticks).

Brief thieves

Panty thieves shoplifted about 100 pairs of lingerie from Victoria’s Secret in Soho, an employee told police last week.

The employee of the 591 Broadway location told the N.Y.P.D. that he had viewed security footage on Sat., June 22, that showed two women (about 20 years old)  place handfuls of underwear from a drawer into a bag held by a third woman (also 20), who then walked out of the store without paying. The footage was observed by the employee after the three women had already left, taking about 50 pairs of multicolored underwear size small, and 50 medium pairs, for a total of about $1050.

Motorcycles taken

Two motorcycles were stolen off the streets of Lower Manhattan in the past week, police reported, one from Dover St. below the Brooklyn Bridge, and another from New York Plaza.

A 30-year-old man stated that he parked his 2007 red Honda motor bike with Vermont plates on Dover St. from 6:30 p.m. on Tues., June 18 to 7:30 a.m. When he returned on Fri., June 21, the $7,000 motorcycle was missing.

Another man, 23, reported that he parked his motorcycle at 4 New York Plaza while he was at work on Thurs., June 20 from 6:45 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. However, after work, he came back to an empty parking place. The victim and a police officer conducted a canvass of the area, but turned up no results. The bike was a 2006 black Suzuki motorcycle with New York plates, valued at $5,000.

Subway assault

A man was accosted early in morning on the 2 subway train at William and Wall St., police said.

The 65-year-old victim told police that the incident occurred at about 3:40 a.m. on Tues., June 18. The man was on a Downtown train when he said he had a verbal dispute with a woman who was also on the train at the Wall St. station. He was then approached by a man who asked, “Why are you disrespecting her?”

The victim said that the man knocked his hat and glasses off and poked him in the left eye with his hand, causing bruising under the eye. The assailant got off the train at the next station, Clark St., and the victim got off at Brooklyn’s Borough Hall stop to contact the police.
