A street theater group performed Bertolt Brecht’s The Days of the Commune on Sunday in the south end of Zuccotti Park. The German dramatist published the play in the mid-twentieth century and its story follows the lives of a collective of people known as the Paris Commune. Mirroring the “leaderless” aspect that has defined the Occupy Wall Street movement, Brecht’s play does not have a hero and instead focuses on the entire group as it protested in the streets against the ruling Paris City Council. The rise and fall of the Paris Commune is considered to have ignited the proletarian revolution.
