Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani is on team Trump.
“I support Trump. I’m gonna vote for Trump,” Giuliani said in an interview with the New York Post on Thursday.
“He’s a better choice than Cruz and a more realistic choice than Kasich,” he said in an interview with the New York Times.
Giuliani told the Times that this is not an endorsement because, as a delegate at the Republican National Convention, he will have more sway if he has not endorsed anyone.
Trump and Giuliani have reportedly been close friends for years. The Washington Post reported in February that Giuliani had been giving advice to the real estate mogul on his campaign.
Giuliani, who ran for president in 2008, said he doesn’t agree with everything Trump has said, but he likes that he is a negotiator.
“He negotiates from a high bar to get people’s attention,” Giuliani told the Post. “Threatening to withdraw from NATO will get a better deal with NATO.”
He told the Times he also disagrees with Trump and his Republican opponent Ted Cruz on mass deportations.
The former mayor said in the interview with the Post that he took offense to Cruz’s “New York values” remark in January.
“It’s New York City. We’re family. I can make fun of New York. But you can’t!” Giuliani said.
“I know he was attacking liberal Democratic values,” he added. “There was a better way to say it.”
