Cops in the East Village continue to hunt for an unhinged brute who randomly attacked a senior last weekend.
Police said the senior was assaulted as she went for a walk not far from a block that has troubled the neighborhood for years, authorities said.
According to police sources, the 68-year-old woman was walking in front of the Town & Village Synagogue located at 334 East 14th St. at around 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 22 when the assault unfolded.
The victim told police she was minding her own business, authorities said, when a man approached her from behind and struck her over the back with an unknown metal object. The perpetrator then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
The incident was reported to the 9th Precinct. Police said the victim suffered pain and bruising to her back, but refused medical treatment at the scene.
This comes just one block away from where a man was murdered over the summer in what locals called an open-air drug-fueled market that has put a stain on the area for years now.
On June 23, illegal street vendors underwent a vicious brawl, leading to the stabbing death of Clemson Cockfield, who died trying to protect his wife from the assailant, investigators said.
The slaying led to widespread condemnation from residents and elected officials. In August, Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD officials announced a surge of police presence in the area to quell crime.
As for this latest act of violence, police described the suspect involved as a man last seen wearing black pants, a gray X-Men t-shirt, and a backpack.
No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
