It was a solar eclipse of the heart for many across the United States on Monday as parts of the country witnessed the moon pass across the sun.

New York City residents were only treated to a partial eclipse, with about 70 percent of the sun blocked by the moon, but a large swath of the country — from Oregon to South Carolina — experienced a total eclipse for the first time since 1918.
