Police are still looking for two suspects who stabbed a teen to death in the Flatiron District on Friday night.
Sources familiar with the gory killing at the corner of East 26th Street and Park Avenue South on Dec. 15 now believe the brutal attack stemmed from a fight.
According to law enforcement sources, two men — one wearing a red hoodie and another wearing a camouflage hoodie — apparently engaged in a fist fight with 18-year-old Denzel Bimpey of the Bronx at around 10:41 p.m. on Friday night. Police are still investigating whether the trio knew one another.
During the dispute, police sources said, one of his attackers pulled out a knife and began stabbing the young man in a frenzy — leaving Bimpey with multiple wounds to his chest, shoulder and forearm.
Critically wounded, cops said, Bimpey fled from where police believe he was initially assaulted on East 27th Street to 345 Park Ave. South, where he collapsed in a bloody heap outside of a revolving glass door.
Bimpey was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds at 11:26 p.m. For several hours, a large patch of blood lay on the concrete, walls and glass of the building — serving as a grim reminder of the devastating homicide.
According to PIX-11 News, Bimpey was visiting family in the Big Apple for holidays while on a break from school. A cousin described him as a “great kid.”
On the night of the murder, officers from the 13th Precinct took a 19-year-old man in for questioning, but he was ultimately released without being charged.
Authorities say they are still looking for two suspects who fled northbound on Park Avenue.
No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
